Safe work method statement for high risk construction work

Last updated: 29 November 2024

This information sheet provides advice for persons conducting a business or undertaking (PCBUs) on the function, content and application of safe work method statement (SWMS). The Work Health and Safety (General) Regulations 2022 and Work Health and Safety (Mines) Regulations 2022 (WHS Regulations), require a SWMS to be prepared for proposed high risk construction work before commencing any activity.

A SWMS is not required for work of a minor nature.

For further information on what is work of a minor nature, see the Safe Work Australia Construction work – Work of minor nature: Information sheet.
